Federal Law Enforcement Officers Detain 19-year-old Lacking Valid Ticket - Discovery of Mobile Phone Theft Incident
On August 16, 2025, a train conductor on an Intercity-Express from Hannover to Stendal checked a male passenger. The passenger, later identified as an Algerian national, was caught stealing a mobile phone on the platform and attempting to access other passengers' luggage.
Upon arrival at Magdeburg Central Station, federal police officers were informed about the suspicious passenger. They took him to their offices to establish his identity and confirm his details via the police information system.
During the investigation, it was discovered that the passenger allegedly walked through the train several times, opening luggage of other passengers and searching for valuables. Other passengers also confirmed these actions.
A criminal investigation has been initiated against the Algerian national for theft and fraud. Following the completion of police procedures, he was released, having been informed of his rights.
