Federal law enforcement carries out warranted arrests in Dortmund, governed by BPOL NRW
In a significant development, the Polizei Dortmund (Police Dortmund) has apprehended two wanted individuals on February 7th. The first arrest was made at Dortmund Airport, where a 36-year-old Ukrainian man was detained by federal police officers. The second arrest took place later at Dortmund Central Station, where a 32-year-old Polish man was apprehended.
The Ukrainian man was wanted by the Public Prosecutor's Office in Osnabrück for fraud. He had been convicted in June 2024 for the same offence and was ordered to pay a fine of 600 euros. However, he had neither paid the fine nor surrendered to the arrest warrant, leading to its issuance. The man managed to avoid a probable 10-day prison sentence by paying the fine before his arrest. The amount of money was paid into a police station in Lower Saxony.
The Polish man, on the other hand, was convicted by the Regional Court in Dortmund in July 2020 for fraudulently obtaining benefits in three cases. He was sentenced to pay a fine of 350 euros, but was unable to do so. This led to a probable 35-day imprisonment. The details of his intended travel plans, which included Krakow, Poland via Dortmund Airport, are not yet clear.
The federal police directorate in Sankt Augustin and the federal police inspectorate in Dortmund can provide further information regarding the arrests. The public is reminded that the law enforcement agencies are committed to ensuring the safety and security of the community, and will take necessary actions against those who break the law.
