Federal authorities in Germany apprehended Czech citizens at the Reitzenhain border checkpoint for alleged breaches of several laws.
Czech Driver Arrested for Drug Smuggling and Violations at Reitzenhain Border Crossing
In a significant development, a 31-year-old Czech citizen was arrested by the Federal Police Inspectorate Chemnitz on August 15, 2025, at the border crossing in Reitzenhain. The incident, which has since been handed over to the Marienberg Police Station for further processing, has raised concerns about drug smuggling and violation of various acts.
Upon inspection, the vehicle, which bore Czech registration plates, was found to contain illicit substances. A plastic bag with cannabis residue was discovered on the front passenger seat, and a backpack containing several drug paraphernalia was found in the trunk. Moreover, a knuckleduster was discovered between the center console and the driver's seat.
The driver, who initially refused to present identification documents and expressed a desire to return to the Czech Republic, was found to be driving without a license. This prompted the Federal Police Inspectorate to initiate investigations under the German Road Traffic Act.
In addition, the driver tested positive for amphetamines, leading to further investigations under the Narcotics Act. Given the nature of the discovered items, the Federal Police Inspectorate has also initiated investigations under the Weapons Act for the possession of a prohibited weapon.
The identities of the driver, the front passenger (a 45-year-old Czech), and the backseat passenger (a 57-year-old Czech citizen) were confirmed with the help of Czech authorities.
