FC Porto is implementing a house-purging operation.
FC Porto Defender Fábio Cardoso Set for Move to Sevilla
In a surprising turn of events, FC Porto defender Fábio Cardoso is set to depart from the Portuguese giants and join Sevilla in a free transfer. This will mark Cardoso's first experience in Spain.
Fábio Cardoso, who has won a Portuguese league, three Portuguese Cups, and one League Cup with FC Porto, joined the club from Santa Clara in the summer of 2021. However, he has been training separately and is not part of coach Francesco Farioli's plans at the moment.
Meanwhile, Sevilla have secured their first victory in La Liga this season, a 2-0 win against Girona. The defensive axis for Sevilla, composed of Salas (22) and Castrin (23), has shown promise, but their lack of experience is notable.
The club is reportedly bringing in reinforcements, with Fábio Cardoso set to undergo medical exams in Sevilla in the coming hours.
Sevilla have secured the services of Jakub Kiwior, a 25-year-old Polish international center-back, on loan until the end of the current season. The loan fee for Kiwior is €2 million. There is an obligation to buy Kiwior from his current team in the summer of 2026, with the price set at €17 million. However, the deal could reach a maximum of €27 million, depending on his sporting performance.
Jakub Kiwior arrived in Porto to undergo medical exams, but it appears his future lies with Sevilla.
Unfortunately, FC Porto has also lost a former player, Jorge Costa, who passed away due to a cardiac arrest in the emergency room of Hospital São João, in Porto. Costa, who inherited the mythical number 2 shirt at FC Porto, previously worn by Paulinho Santos and Fábio Cardoso, will be deeply missed by the club and its fans.
As FC Porto bid farewell to one of their own and welcome a new defender, Sevilla prepare for the second half of the La Liga season with renewed hope and reinforcements.
