Fatal Traffic Accident on Werler Street, Hamm
In a tragic incident on September 1st, a 43-year-old motorcyclist lost his life in a traffic accident on Werler Street, Hamm. The accident occurred at the intersection with Heideweg, around 4:35 PM.
According to the Police Headquarters Hamm, the driver of a BMW, a 68-year-old man, was responsible for the collision. The BMW was traveling out of the city and, in violation of traffic rules, turned left onto Heideweg, colliding with the 43-year-old motorcyclist who was riding a Suzuki motorcycle.
Several bystanders and witnesses provided immediate first aid, but despite resuscitation efforts, the motorcyclist tragically died at the scene. A 38-year-old cyclist from Hamm was also injured by flying vehicle parts but sustained only minor injuries.
The 68-year-old driver and the 63-year-old passenger in the BMW were both seriously injured. The passenger had to be freed by rescue forces and was taken to a hospital. Both vehicles involved in the incident were impounded.
The cyclist was taken to a hospital for outpatient treatment. Emergency chaplains, a team from the police's victim support service in Hamm, an accident investigation team from the Münster police, and rescue forces from the fire department were present at the scene.
Werler Street was completely closed between Rhynerberg and Dr.-Loeb-Caldenhof-Straße for the accident investigation until 9:30 PM. Traffic was rerouted during this time.
