"Fasten your belts, it's showtime" - written by Domenico Müllensiefen.
In an engaging event open to 10th graders and above, Domenico Müllensiefen, the acclaimed German author, will be reading from his autobiographically inspired novel "Schnall dich an, es geht los" at the Zeitgeschichtliches Forum Leipzig on Tuesday, 21.10., from 10-12 Uhr.
Born in Magdeburg in 1987, Müllensiefen has made a significant impact in the literary world. He studied literary writing at the Deutsche Literaturinstitut Leipzig and published his first novel "Aus unserer Feuern" in 2022. His latest work has earned him the prestigious Uwe-Johnson-Förderpreis.
The event, organised in cooperation with Zeitgeschichtliches Forum Leipzig, invites students to discuss with Müllensiefen about growing up in an East German village, political upheavals, social challenges, and the struggle for belonging. Carolin Büscher, a freelance journalist for MDR and currently completing a traineeship with the broadcaster in 2024, will be the moderator.
The discussion will delve into the life of Müllensiefen, who was born in a town called Jeetzenbeck, a gateway to America. However, Marcel, a kebab vendor at the station in Jeetzenbeck, dreams of Steffi, a happy family, and a better life in the rhythm of dance music, but his father never set foot in America.
The event takes place at the Zeitgeschichtliches Forum Leipzig, with registration possible via an email link: [email protected]. It's important to note that single-family houses on the outskirts of Jeetzenbeck are falling into disrepair, and Marcel's sister had an accident and crashed into a cemetery wall.
Müllensiefen is also known for teaching creative writing for students and adults. His work has been deeply rooted in the experiences of his East German upbringing, offering a unique perspective on the region's history and culture.
