Fast Food Delivery Service Talabat Announces Plans for 30-Minute Grocery Delivery in Egypt

Talabat, previously known as Otlob, has made its official debut in Egypt, marking a significant shift in the Egyptian market. According to Sofiène Marzouki, the Managing Director of Talabat Egypt, this launch signifies a new mindset for Talabat in Egypt.

Talabat Mart, a 30-minute grocery delivery service, will be the highlight of this launch, initially available in Cairo and later expanding to Alexandria. This service aims to redefine the way Egyptians experience online ordering, focusing on affordability, variety, and speed. Talabat Mart will operate 24/7, delivering groceries to customers' doorsteps in just 30 minutes.

The service will be powered by dark stores, a concept already in use in some of Talabat's markets, including Kuwait and the United Arab Emirates. Talabat Mart will not limit deliveries to food or groceries but will also deliver items like clothes and electronics, setting the stage for Q-commerce, Talabat's next play for the future of the delivery industry. The target is to deliver goods within 1 hour.

Sofiène Marzouki also mentioned that Talabat aims to continue driving the growth of the delivery sector, opening up new jobs and opportunities for the Egyptian people. In line with this, Talabat plans to create 50,000 new employment opportunities for Egyptians to become riders by the end of 2020.

Moreover, Talabat plans to onboard 20,000 new restaurants in Egypt. InstaShop, a Dubai-headquartered grocery delivery marketplace that Delivery Hero has recently acquired, will reportedly include Talabat Mart as one of the stores on its app for buying groceries.

The launch of Talabat in Egypt is expected to onboard 20,000 new restaurants on the Talabat platform by the end of 2020, according to Marzouki. This move is part of Talabat's strategy to expand its presence in the Egyptian market and cater to the growing demand for online food delivery and grocery services.

In conclusion, the launch of Talabat in Egypt marks a new era for online ordering, promising faster delivery times, a wider variety of goods, and more job opportunities for the Egyptian people.
