Fast charging station for electric vehicles, Revel, expands its network with a new DC hub in New York City
New York City Unveils State-of-the-Art EV Charging Hub for Rideshare Drivers
New York City has taken a significant step forward in its Green Rides Initiative with the opening of a state-of-the-art DC fast charging hub at Pier 36 in Lower Manhattan. The charging station, a highly sought-after EV charging hub in North America, is strategically located between the Manhattan and Williamsburg bridges, right off the FDR Drive.
Revel, a leading provider of public fast charging in New York City, and Kempower, a Finnish electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure firm, jointly commissioned the ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new charging station. The event marked the first deployment of Kempower chargers by Revel, and according to Frank Reig, Revel's Co-Founder & CEO, it brings the fastest charging on the market directly to rideshare and taxi drivers, helping them access electric vehicles more easily.
The Pier 36 Charging Station is equipped with a total of ten Kempower Satellite chargers. Five of these chargers feature CCS1 with a maximum capacity of 320 kilowatts, while the remaining five have NACS with a maximum capacity of 280 kilowatts. This means that the chargers at the hub can charge any model EV, making it a convenient and accessible charging solution for rideshare drivers electrifying under New York City's Green Rides Initiative.
The fast chargers at the Pier 36 Charging Station will be available to the public 24/7. The charging hub incorporates a climate-resilient design, with electrical equipment built above the flood plain, ensuring its continued operation even in adverse weather conditions.
With the City of New York requiring its rideshare fleet to be made up of either zero-emission vehicles or wheelchair accessible vehicles by 2030, the Pier 36 Charging Station is poised to play a crucial role in facilitating the transition to electric vehicles. This is the first mention of Kempower chargers being added to more sites in the future by Revel, indicating a commitment to expanding the charging infrastructure in New York City.
The leaders of the companies involved in the DC fast charging station installed at Pier 36 in Lower Manhattan are typically executives from electric vehicle charging infrastructure firms; however, specific leader names are not publicly detailed for this particular installation. Despite this, the opening of the Pier 36 Charging Station represents a significant milestone in New York City's efforts to promote sustainable transportation and reduce its carbon footprint.
Revel's Pier 36 Charging Station is located in the Lower East Side over the East River, making it easily accessible for rideshare drivers and the public alike. As more electric vehicles hit the roads in New York City, the Pier 36 Charging Station will undoubtedly become an essential stop for those seeking a fast and reliable charging solution.
