Farewells are said to renowned fashion designer Giorgio Armani
Giorgio Armani, the renowned Italian fashion designer, passed away last Thursday at the age of 91. Over the weekend, thousands paid their respects to the iconic figure in a private funeral service held at a church in Rivalta, near his birthplace Piacenza, Italy.
The burial took place privately on September 8, 2025, attended only by a small circle of close family, friends, and staff, including his life and business partner Leo Dell'Orco, his sister, nieces, and nephew. Notable attendees at the private funeral included fellow designer Donatella Versace, Fiat heir John Elkann, and composer Ludovico Einaudi.
In a touching display of remembrance, all Armani stores closed from 3:00 PM onwards for the rest of the day. A sign outside a store on Düsseldorf's Königsallee announced the store closure in memory of Giorgio Armani. The coffin of the fashion legend was displayed at the Armani headquarters in Milan over the weekend, giving fans and admirers a chance to pay their respects.
As the coffin was brought to the church in Rivalta in the afternoon, some people gathered on the streetside and applauded in a moving tribute to the designer. The multinational corporation, which operates over 600 boutiques worldwide, will undoubtedly continue to celebrate Armani's legacy and the impact he had on the fashion industry.
Rivalta was closed to tourists and visitors several hours before the funeral, allowing for a peaceful and intimate ceremony. The funeral service was a poignant reminder of the life and career of one of Italy's most influential designers, whose creations graced the runways of Milan, Paris, and New York for over five decades.
Giorgio Armani's passing marks the end of an era in the fashion world, but his legacy will live on through his designs, his impact on the industry, and the countless lives he touched along the way.
