Bietigheim Horse Market Kicks Off with a Bang

The 89th Bietigheim Horse Market opened its gates on Friday, attracting a multitude of visitors from near and far. With around 250,000 visitors each year, it's no surprise that the event is one of the Top 5 Festivals in Baden-Württemberg.

On the opening day, the reigning European champion in show jumping, Richard Vogel, made a grand appearance with his eight-year-old horse, Dollar Girl. Vogel showcased his skills in the jumping tournament, effortlessly clearing all obstacles.

Among the crowd was Johannes Püttmer, a 95-year-old regular visitor who has attended the horse market multiple times in the past. Püttmer, with a twinkle in his eye, climbed the steps to the stage and jokingly referred to SWR presenter Hansy Vogt as "Your Majesty."

The amusement park, with its live music, was a hit on the first evening, with visitors celebrating the start of the event. Klaus Maier, the innkeeper of the Goëckelesmaier, dedicated his festival tent to seniors on the day in question.

The horse market's folk festival covers a large spatial extent, including the fairground, Krämermarkt, riding tournament, Shetland ponies, and "Home and Garden" exhibition. It's a reunion for the horse family, a place where both young and old gather to celebrate their shared passion.

Gabriele Hubl, from the board of the Bietigheim-Bissingen riding club, spoke warmly about taking care of all performers, vendors, and athletes every year. The event is a testament to the community spirit that thrives in Bietigheim.

Alfred Geiger, 94 years old, travels from Sacramento, USA, to the horse market every year. His 93-year-old sister, Rosemarie Stickel, who was a well-known athlete in her youth, usually accompanies him but is currently moving to another state. Despite the distance, both Alfred and Rosemarie remain fond of horses.

Last year, temperatures at the horse market reached around 38 or 39 degrees. However, this year, visitors need to bring their A-game when it comes to stamina and good footwear to explore the entire event. The topography under the viaduct offers a quick route from the fairground to quiet paths through the green, which many families utilized for a leisurely summer stroll on Saturday.

Unfortunately, the current European champion in show jumping who participated in the 89th Bietigheimer Pferdemarkt in 2023 is not explicitly named in the search results. Information about the 2023 European show jumping champion or the participants of the 89th Bietigheimer Pferdemarkt is not found in the provided data.

Despite this, the Bietigheim Horse Market promises to be an unforgettable experience for all who attend, a celebration of horses, community, and tradition.
