Families are pursuing justice after a renowned French doctor, who has been in the limelight for years, now faces accusations of murder. The families have been patiently waiting for 17 years.

Frederic Pechier, a 53-year-old anaesthetist from Besançon, France, is currently standing trial for the alleged poisoning of 30 patients during surgeries. The trial, which began in Besançon and will run until December, is a landmark case in French legal history, described as "dizzying" due to its scale, duration, and technical complexity.

Pechier, who was the first responder during cardiac arrest incidents, worked at two clinics in Besançon between 2008 and 2017. He is accused of intentionally harming healthy patients to damage his colleagues in conflict. Twelve patients who were treated by Pechier did not survive.

The case gained national attention when it was revealed that over 70 cases of unexpected complications or deaths were reviewed during the investigation. Among the alleged victims was a four-year-old child and an 89-year-old patient.

In 2019, a psychological evaluation of Pechier pointed to a controlling personality with perverse traits. However, Pechier's defense has rejected these findings. He has denied all charges and is currently under judicial supervision.

The trial involves more than 150 civil parties, including a trade union for anaesthetists. If convicted, Pechier faces life imprisonment.

55 lawyers are representing victims in the trial. Pechier has insisted he intends to prove his innocence ahead of the trial. The prosecutor describes the case as "unprecedented in French legal history."

It is important to note that this article presents the facts of the case as they have been reported. The trial is ongoing, and the court has yet to reach a verdict.
