Fall Gardening Trend for Autumn: Expert Advice on Creating a Magical Outdoor Ambiance

In the crisp evenings of autumn, gardens across the country are being transformed by a captivating new lighting trend: Moonlighting. This enchanting trend, which mimics the glow of the moon, is set to be a popular choice in the coming months.

Adam Wilkins, the managing director at Lighting Legends, a company specialising in lighting solutions, explains that Moonlighting provides a soft, cosy atmosphere in gardens, casting shadows and creating a dreamlike, dappled light. This ethereal effect adds a whimsical and nostalgic touch to outdoor spaces, making one feel as if they are wrapped up in nature.

The trend is not just about aesthetics. Moonlighting also offers practical benefits, making gardens more welcoming and easier to navigate after dark. With its warm, understated radiance, provided by solar lights, Moonlighting enhances the beauty of autumn, accentuating reds and amber color tones.

Jamie Moxey, a lighting expert at Dusk Lighting, notes that Moonlighting is an excellent way to maximise the enjoyment of autumn evenings, perfect for cosy firepit gatherings and outdoor dinners. Habitat's Solar Mood Light, resembling a moon, is a popular choice, adding emphasis to the trend.

Alex Bridgman, CEO of Bridgman, advises placing lights high in trees or on elevated structures for a natural play of light and shadow. Festoon lights, hanging from pergolas, trees, or fencing, are a popular choice for garden lighting, while hanging lanterns can create the effect of moonbeams.

Interestingly, the term Moonlighting in horticulture refers to professionals or workers taking on additional gardening or plant-related jobs outside their primary employment. This trend has roots in seasonal or part-time work practices within the gardening and horticulture industry.

The globe light trend, which has been popular indoors, is continuing into gardens, with these pretty lights attaching to garden walls or fences to create a warm, cosy glow around seating areas. Moonlighting is indeed a trend that promises to make the most of gardens in autumn and winter months, making them not just beautiful but also inviting and welcoming.
