In the world of video games, a new life simulator has emerged that's capturing the hearts of nature enthusiasts and gamers alike. Out and About, currently in Early Access on PC, is an open-world life simulation game that puts players in the virtual town of Portobello, where the focus is on gathering plants, learning about their properties, and creating remedies.

As players embark on their journey, they find themselves in a town that has been hit by a storm, causing damage to the environment. This serves as a stark reminder of the importance of caring for the world around us, a theme that echoes throughout the game.

Upon starting the game, players are given the opportunity to customise their character's appearance, setting the tone for their personalised adventure. They then set off into Portobello town to meet their granny, who tasks them with gathering resources to fund community projects.

One of the key aspects of Out and About is foraging for plants. Players learn to identify various species, such as Ribwort, Broadleaf Plantain, Dandelions, and Stinging Nettles, and catalog them using a camera. This encourages learning about these plants, much like the museum in Animal Crossing: New Horizons.

However, the game doesn't stop at simply identifying plants. Players are encouraged to use anything collected from nature to make something useful, promoting sustainability. For instance, Stinging Nettles, which are packed full of vitamins in reality, can be used to make Stinging Nettle Tea in the game.

The health bar for plants in the game shows when too much is being taken from a stem, reinforcing the importance of sustainability. This teaching extends to the properties of the plants players discover, providing a wealth of knowledge about the natural world.

Players can also use their foraging skills to make recipes and sell them at a market to earn currency. This adds a layer of gameplay that's both engaging and educational.

In a heartwarming twist, a character named Claire gets hurt during the storm, and a local named Barbara helps treat her wound using the player's collected plant data. Barbara later uses this data to make a curative for Claire's hand, demonstrating the practical applications of the player's newfound knowledge.

As players delve deeper into the world of Out and About, they find themselves becoming increasingly obsessed with the many species of plants and fungi they encounter. This obsession has translated from the player's love of species in Animal Crossing: New Horizons to a newfound passion for the natural world.

As the game continues to grow in the future, players are eager to see what new discoveries and adventures await them in Portobello town. For those who love exploring the outdoors and learning about nature, Out and About is a game that's not to be missed.
