Experienced a sense of aging at the age of 47.
In an interview with the Uckermark Kurier, healthcare worker Anna-Karina Appel expressed her dissatisfaction with the limited recreational options in the town of Prenzlau. Born in Stettin and moving to Germany in 2001, Anna-Karina found a new home in Prenzlau in 2022, to be closer to her family, including three children and two grandchildren.
However, after six months, Anna-Karina realized that her decision to move to Prenzlau was a mistake due to work-related issues. She had to work overtime frequently, which resulted in less time for her family despite commuting daily from work. This, coupled with the lack of recreational facilities for all age groups, particularly for her grandchildren, led to her longing for her friends in Hamburg.
Anna-Karina found a good job and a reliable circle of friends in Hamburg. The people in Hamburg are friendlier and more grateful, according to Anna-Karina. She also found life in Hamburg more relaxed than in Prenzlau. These factors, combined with a unique shift system that offered two weeks of free time after two weeks of work and higher pay, led Anna-Karina to consider moving back to Hamburg.
Despite returning to Prenzlau, Anna-Karina keeps her apartment in Hamburg and regularly commutes between the two towns. She has a strong relationship with her friends Sandra and Ronny, who are natives of Prenzlau. Anna-Karina appreciates the beautiful nature of Prenzlau but laments its lack of recreational options.
Anna-Karina desires more facilities for all age groups in Prenzlau. She has specifically demanded the expansion of playgrounds and youth centers to improve leisure opportunities for children and adolescents. She wishes for a swimming pool and indoor playground in Prenzlau.
Anna-Karina, however, could imagine retiring in Prenzlau for the peace and nature. For now, she prefers to enjoy her life and experience much in Hamburg. Anna-Karina's voice serves as a call for the town of Prenzlau to consider the need for more recreational facilities to cater to its residents, particularly the younger generation.
