New Vocational School Center for Electronics to Boost Dresden's Semiconductor Industry
The city of Dresden is set to welcome a new vocational school center for electronics in Prohlis, following the approval of a construction project by the city council. This new educational institution is expected to become a "lighthouse" for attracting trainees from Germany and neighbouring countries to Saxony.
The project, which is scheduled for completion by the end of 2028, includes a modern sports hall and outdoor sports facilities. Economics Minister Dirk Panter (SPD) stated that the new school will help "Silicon Saxony" continue to grow, referring to the Saxon semiconductor center in Dresden and the surrounding area.
The EU is providing up to 100 million euros in funding for the project, with the first funding check of 75 million euros handed over by Minister President Michael Kretschmer next Friday. The school will accommodate up to 2,200 students and its primary focus will be on specialists needed for industrial settlements in northern Dresden.
The new school will be part of a green campus, aiming to promote sustainability and eco-friendly practices. The project is estimated to cost 140 million euros, with additional funding details yet to be disclosed.
The new vocational school center for electronics in Prohlis, Dresden is intended to help ensure the continued growth of the semiconductor industry in Dresden and its surroundings.
