Expansion of Nature Excursion Initiative at Forest School
In the heart of Wild Park, a new Forest School has opened its doors, offering a unique blend of practical themes, modern facilities, and a strong focus on sustainability and nature education.
Lea Thomas, the new head of the Forest School, brings a wealth of experience in nature conservation to her role. She completed her master's thesis on migratory birds and has worked with organisations such as the NABU (Nature and Biodiversity Conservation Union) in Hamburg and the Center for Biological Diversity.
The Forest School, which has been inspiring children since 1995 with its permanent exhibition in the old Forest School log cabin, now boasts expanded facilities. The log cabin houses exhibits such as a beehive display, aquarium, terrarium, and a blue tit camera.
The school's aim is to bring the importance and value of the forest and nature to children in urban environments. It responds to the increased demand from schools and kindergartens for modern and functional spaces. The new Forest School features two training rooms reserved for school classes and kindergartens for the environmental education program.
The Forest School's tours, which can be booked via an online registration form, offer diverse opportunities for nature experiences. Around ten tours per school week are offered, covering topics such as the presentation of animal species and the ecosystems of forest and pond, with a focus on "climate change" and "sustainability". Free dates for tours can still be booked upon request.
The expanded event program for the Forest School this year includes additional tours and new action days. Visitors can continue to use the old Forest School log cabin, while the new facilities provide a modern and functional space for environmental education.
The Forest School's offer can be found online at www.duesseldorf.de/waldschule. With its practical themes, diverse nature experiences, and focus on sustainability, the Forest School is a must-visit for any nature-loving family in the Wild Park.
