Munich, Germany - The Chinese automotive industry is making a significant mark in Europe, as evidenced by the increased presence of Chinese companies in Munich's city centre and other European industries. This trend is set to continue at the upcoming International Motor Show (IAA) Mobility 2025, where Chinese manufacturers will have a 40% increase in representation compared to the 2023 event.

The IAA, taking place from September 9 to 14, is expected to host over 700 exhibitors, with around 30 actual car manufacturers participating, marking a third more than two years ago. Notable absentees include Tesla, but Korean manufacturers Kia and Hyundai will be present.

The event will also feature an entertainment stage, concerts, a light art exhibition inspired by Berlin, test ride bicycles, and a model of the future Munich S-Bahn trains, presented in partnership with Deutsche Bahn.

Environmental organizations and the Attac network have announced protests and rallies for the IAA, highlighting the ongoing debate about the environmental impact of the automotive industry. Despite this, the VDA CEO, Jürgen Mindel, has confirmed that the IAA will continue to take place in Munich.

The majority of the 231 models available for test drives at the IAA will be electric vehicles, reflecting the industry's shift towards sustainability. Families with children are being attracted to the exhibition by Messe München, with a focus on interactive and educational experiences.

The increased number of participating manufacturers is a sign that the IAA is finding greater international favour again. Among the newcomers are several Chinese companies making their debut, including BYD with 15 reserved test vehicle spaces. Major Chinese players like BYD, MG, Nio, Chery, and Changan are expected to participate, making it the largest Chinese presence so far at the event.

A new US tech giant, Google, has also joined the exhibitors at the IAA, further underscoring the event's international appeal. The IAA is taking place in Bavaria, not returning to Frankfurt, signalling a permanent shift in the event's location.

Jürgen Mindel, CEO of the VDA, announced that the German manufacturers' presence at the IAA is a "signal of strength and confidence." The automotive industry, both in Germany and globally, is clearly making strides towards a more sustainable and technologically advanced future, and the IAA Mobility 2025 in Munich will be a key event in this journey.
