Expansion of fiber optics gathering momentum
In a bid to continue the drive for digital transformation, Saxony-Anhalt's Minister for Infrastructure and Digitalisation, Dr. Lydia Hüskens, announced that the campaign for fibre optic expansion will carry on for an additional three months.
Dr. Hüskens, who launched the Fibre Day event at Magdeburg's Johanniskirche, emphasised the need for simplification, deregulation, and digitalisation of approval procedures to speed up the process. The event was attended by over 250 guests from politics, business, municipalities, and the telecommunications industry.
The state has made significant progress in fibre optic expansion, with around 70 percent of households and businesses already benefiting from fibre optic connections. Saxony-Anhalt aims to provide all households and businesses with fibre optic connections by 2030, a central pillar of its five-year gigabit strategy.
To further accelerate mobile communications expansion, a framework agreement was signed with the four operators Tim, Windtre, Vodafone, and Iliad. This agreement is part of the strategy, which also includes the nationwide rollout of 5G mobile communications as a target by 2030.
Dr. Hüskens will address the population via radio spots about the benefits of fibre optic connections, using the slogans "Fibre optic - we need it" and "Fibre optic - we have it". The campaign will run for three months, reinforcing the state's commitment to digitalisation.
The strategy's success is evident, with over 300,000 households and businesses in Saxony-Anhalt already reaping the benefits of fibre optic connections. However, Dr. Hüskens demands further acceleration to ensure that Saxony-Anhalt stays at the forefront of the digital revolution.
