Expanding its ebus fleet, pharmaceutical giant Bayer, headquartered in Ehingen, is making significant strides.
Sonja Bayer, managing partner of Bayer, a bus company based in Ehingen, has announced that the acquisition of five all-electric Mercedes-Benz eCitaro buses is a significant contribution to promoting and shaping environmentally friendly public transport in their region.
The new buses, each 18-metres long, are equipped with 48 passenger seats and two folding seats. They also come with numerous driver assistance systems for enhanced passenger safety, including Frontguard Assist, a driver assistance system that detects potential collisions with unprotected road users in the immediate vicinity of the front of the vehicle and warns the driver.
In addition, Bayer has also received delivery of two 18-metre-long Mercedes-Benz Citaro G articulated buses. The eCitaro buses are powered by an environmentally-friendly drive power package of six batteries from the third NMC3 lithium-ion generation with a total capacity of 589 kWh.
The expansion of Bayer's fleet comes ahead of the fourth annual CiTTi Awards, an unmissable event for the UK's transportation sector. The awards event, which recognizes and celebrates achievements and innovations in sustainable transport planning, will take place on 25 November 2025 at De Vere Grand Connaught Rooms in London.
For more information about the CiTTi Awards, visit the official website at www.cittiawards.co.uk. The 12-metre-long eCitaro buses can accommodate 36 passengers.
The eCitaro buses were delivered by Daimler Truck in November 2025. The 18-metre-long Citaro G buses can accommodate a similar number of passengers, with their exact capacity yet to be confirmed.
The CiTTi Awards is an event that brings together professionals from across the UK's transportation sector to celebrate and recognise the most innovative and sustainable transport solutions. The date for the fourth annual CiTTi Awards is 25 November 2025, and the location is De Vere Grand Connaught Rooms in London.
By investing in electric vehicles, Bayer is demonstrating a commitment to reducing emissions and promoting sustainable transport in their region. The company's expansion with Mercedes-Benz eCitaro buses is a positive step towards a greener future for public transport.
