Expanded regional driving classes for nearly 9 million motorists announced.
In the upcoming year, motor vehicle liability insurance classes for approximately 5 million car drivers across 56 districts in Germany will undergo changes, according to Jörg Asmussen, CEO of GDV (German Insurance Association). The association classifies 413 registration districts in Germany annually, with each district's classification indicating the regional risk level for motor vehicle insurance.
The registration district of Bamberg in Bavaria has an index value of 56.45 in partial insurance, indicating better-than-average damage statistics. Conversely, the registration district of Ostallgäu in Bavaria has the highest index value in motor vehicle liability insurance at 204.09, signifying worse-than-average damage statistics.
The registration district of Wesermarsch in Brake, Lower Saxony, has an index value of 76.17 in comprehensive insurance, while Berlin has the worst damage statistics, with damages more than a third higher than the national average. The Prignitz in Brandenburg, however, boasts the best damage statistics in motor vehicle liability insurance nationwide, with damages 30% lower than the national average.
Despite these changes, it's important to note that a change in the regional class does not necessarily reflect the development of the entire motor vehicle insurance premium. For almost 85% of insured, around 31.2 million, everything will remain the same. Around 2 million insured will face higher regional classes, while almost 3.5 million fully or partially insured will benefit from better regional classes.
It's also worth mentioning that Garmisch-Partenkirchen in Bavaria has a motor vehicle liability insurance regional class of 143.00, and Berlin has a Zulassungsbezirk of 137.26. The search results do not provide specific information about which districts in Germany had the best damage statistics in motor vehicle liability insurance in 2022.
In comprehensive insurance, the regional classes for many car drivers change due to the current GDV regional statistics. However, these changes do not offer a clear picture of the development of the entire motor vehicle insurance premium. Asmussen emphasized that these changes should not be interpreted as a direct indicator of premium changes.
