Turkey's Energy and Natural Resources Minister, Alparslan Bayraktar, has emphasised the potential of domestic resources, particularly the Gabar and Sakarya Gas Fields, in a bid to increase oil and gas production.

In a recent announcement, Bayraktar confirmed that domestic oil and gas production is ongoing at a high rate. The aim, according to the Minister, is to take production to even higher levels.

Bayraktar's statements indicate a continued focus on increasing oil and gas production, as part of Turkey's pursuit of the "Fully Independent Turkey in Energy" vision. In July alone, domestic oil production totaled 4 million barrels, while domestic natural gas production reached 288 million cubic meters.

The Minister also expressed hope that Turkey will become self-sufficient in energy. To achieve this, Bayraktar stated that they will accelerate work both domestically and abroad. Overseas operations in July yielded 339 million cubic meters of natural gas and 1.1 million barrels of oil.

However, the main partners and companies responsible for Turkey's foreign oil deliveries, as well as detailed information on the development of production in the Gabar and Sakarya gas fields related to Turkey’s goal of energy independence, are not currently available.

Despite this, the combined oil and gas output in July amounted to 5.7 million barrels of oil equivalent, with the percentage of Turkey's oil needs met by its own production at 15%, and the percentage of natural gas needs met by domestic production at 16%.

Bayraktar's statements suggest a continued hope for Turkey to achieve energy self-sufficiency. The Minister did not specify a timeline for this goal, but emphasised the importance of continued efforts in both domestic and overseas operations.
