Neuss's Bürger-Schützenfest Returns with a Fanfare

After a two-year hiatus due to the pandemic, Neuss's Bürger-Schützenfest is set to make a triumphant return from August 27 to September 3. The festivities will kick off on Saturday at noon, with a grand opening ceremony that includes the roar of cannons, the ringing of festival bells, and the raising of flags in the city's streets and towers.

The festivities will be packed with events for all ages. On Monday, August 29, from 10.30 AM to 2.30 PM, a musical breakfast dance will take place in the festival tent, open to Neuss residents and guests for free. The same evening, at 9.00 PM, both the Jaeger ball and the Grenadier ball will take place in the festival tent.

On Tuesday, August 30, the day's activities begin at 3.15 PM with a departure from the market, followed by a parade through the city to the Schützenwiese. This parade will feature shooting competitions, horse ring-steching, dancing in the festival tent, children's entertainment, and more. At 6.15 PM, the Königs-vogelschießen will take place, and at 7.45 PM, a grand tattoo will follow in the festival tent.

The highlight of the festivities will be the coronation procession on Saturday, September 3, at 19.30, which will start from the Armory and proceed to the City Hall. The procession will be preceded by a torchlight procession that departs from the Niedertor at 8.45 PM on the same day.

The St. Hubertus Schützenbruderschaft Sundern, which has been active in the community during the COVID-19 pandemic, has played a significant role in organizing this year's Bürger-Schützenfest.

On Sunday, August 28, the Schützenregiment will march onto the market square at 10:10 AM, followed by the parade, the Königsparade. A concert and flag-waving will take place on the market square at 7.00 PM, and a large fireworks display is scheduled for 9.00 PM on the Fairground.

The festivities will conclude with a memorial for the dead at 5 PM on Saturday, August 27, at the Ehrenmal in front of the armory on the market square.

For those who wish to attend, mark your calendars and join the celebration of Neuss's rich history and community spirit at the 2022 Bürger-Schützenfest.
