From novel to film, The Informer's path was far from straightforward, adapting from "Three Seconds," a Swedish book by Roslund & Hellström, a crime writing duo comprising journalist Anders Roslund and Bjorne Hellström.

In the world of crime thrillers, a fresh addition is on the horizon with the upcoming film, "The Informer". The production, which aims for authenticity throughout, has undergone a series of changes, resulting in a compelling cast and a director who has breathed new life into the script.

Initially optioned by British producer Ollie Madden for Shine Productions in the UK, the script was later commissioned to Matt Cook and Rowan Joffe. The duo relocated the story from Sweden to America, setting the stage for an intriguing narrative.

Producer Basil Iwanyk found himself in a challenging position, needing to find a new director and a new cast for the film. His search ended with Italian actor-writer-director Andrea Di Stefano, who brought a fresh spin to the script that impressed Iwanyk. Di Stefano took over the direction of the film project "The Informer" in 2018.

Di Stefano's direction led to a focus shift towards Pete Koslow, the main character, and his family, adding an emotional core to the story. This emphasis on character development resonated with Joel Kinnaman, who was cast as Pete Koslow. Kinnaman, known for his performances in AMC's The Killing, Warner Bros' Suicide Squad, Netflix series Altered Carbon and House of Cards, expressed interest in the role, stating the script was interesting and the character's journey was exciting.

Rosamund Pike, the Oscar-nominated star of Gone Girl, also signed on to the project, taking on the role of morally conflicted FBI Agent Erica Wilcox. The production team, which includes Thunder Road Films, the production company behind Sicario, John Wick and The Town, joined as a US producing partner.

The script of "The Informer" has an old-school vibe reminiscent of 1970s crime thrillers like The French Connection and films directed by Sidney Lumet. The story follows Pete Koslow, a former special operations soldier working as an informant for the FBI to dismantle the Polish mafia's drug trade in New York. When the FBI's operation goes wrong, resulting in the death of an undercover NYPD cop, Pete is coerced into returning to Bale Hill, the prison he previously served time in for manslaughter, to take down the cartel from the inside.

However, the production of "The Informer" faced a setback when it was forced to shut down a week before filming. Despite this obstacle, the team remains optimistic about the future of the film, promising a gripping and authentic crime thriller.
