Ex-exec of Sony Electronics, Alec Shapiro, passes away at 72 following injuries sustained in a car accident.

Alec Shapiro, a prominent figure in the broadcast and production systems industry, has passed away this week following injuries sustained in a car accident. Shapiro was 72 years old.

Shapiro spent more than two decades with Sony Professional Solutions, joining the company in 2003. During his tenure, he held several key positions, including Senior Vice President, Sales and Marketing, Broadcast and Production Systems, and President of Sony Electronics Professional Solutions of America. In 2012, he was promoted to president of Sony's Professional Solutions Group, a role he held until his retirement in 2017.

Born and raised in the United States, Shapiro was a graduate of the University of Maryland. He leaves behind his wife Ellen, son Andrew and his wife Ashley, daughter Amanda, family members Josh Rozelle and their daughters Charlotte and Remi, and sister Arlene Weil and her family.

Throughout his career, Shapiro played a significant role in guiding Sony through numerous phases of television and film technology transitions, particularly as the industry went digital. Before joining Sony, he worked for Chyron and Panasonic.

At the time of his death, there are no clear or current publicly available sources linking Shapiro to any firm or company. His contributions to the industry and Sony, however, are undeniable.
