Event Focus at ZZF Symposium 2025

The Zentralverband Zoologischer Fachbetriebe (ZZF) is set to host the ZZF Symposium 2025, a two-day event dedicated to "animal best friends" - the 10.5 million dogs in Germany. The symposium will take place on November 27 and 28, 2025, at the RheinMain CongressCenter in Wiesbaden, in conjunction with the bpt Congress.

The Economic Community of Zoological Specialty Businesses GmbH (WZF) is the organizer of the ZZF Symposium, which will be held for the first time as part of the bpt congress in Wiesbaden. The symposium is recognized by the Academy for Veterinary Continuing Education (ATF) for veterinarians, offering seven ATF hours.

One of the keynote speakers will be Dr. Nina Meyerhoff from the Hannover Veterinary College Foundation, who will clarify current investigations into the "werewolf syndrome" that triggered acute neurological symptoms in dogs last year. Another notable speaker is Dr. René Dörfelt from the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München, who will give a lecture on causes, symptoms, and first aid for poisonings.

Dr. med. vet. Mario Zimmer, the head of the Task Force Animal Welfare at the Hessian State Laboratory (LHL), will discuss dog accessories in his contribution "Pretty, pretty, and helpful or even forbidden." Prof. Dr. Nadine Paßlack from the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München will inform about trends in dog nutrition, including vegan food and insect proteins.

Dr. Wieland Beck (Zoetis Germany) will examine possible factors for the spread of leishmaniasis and babesiosis, while Mag. Dr. Anja Geretschläger (Feragen GmbH) will demonstrate the opportunities of genetic analysis for dog breeding. Dr. med. vet. MScPhD Barbara Schöning will provide an overview of animal behavior therapy.

The ZZF Symposium is also a platform for pet experts from the pet sector. They will receive a certificate documenting their further training. The LHL department Veterinary Border Control Station Hesse will provide practical and legal tips for traveling with a dog by plane.

The participation fee for the ZZF Symposium is 249,- Euro per person without accommodation, and 189,- Euro for ZZF members. Registration opens in September via the bpt congress at tieraerzteverband.de/fortbildung/kongress/2025. The program of the ZZF Symposium is available online at zzf-symposium.de.

The Federal Association of Practicing Veterinarians e.V. (bpt) and the Federal Association of Civil Service Veterinarians e.V. (BbT) are co-organizers of the ZZF Symposium. The event is aimed at veterinarians, employees in the pet trade, and other companies in the pet industry.
