Eurovision Finals welcome Latvia's Dons after successful qualification
In an exciting turn of events, Latvia has qualified for the Eurovision Song Contest final for the first time since 2016. The performer representing Latvia this year is Dons, who will sing "Hollow", co-written by Liam Geddes and Kate Northrop.
Dons, a familiar face in the Latvian music scene, previously competed in the national selection for Eurovision in 2019. This time around, he has been chosen to represent Latvia in the international competition, singing a song that has already made waves in the Eurovision world.
The title of Latvia's entry in the contest, "Hollow", translates to "The Kingdom of Broken Spears" in Latvian (Lauzto šk̄ēpu karaļvalsts). The song was one of the 16 entries in the second semi-final of the competition, which took place on a yet-to-be-specified date, featuring countries such as Malta, Albania, Greece, Switzerland, the Czech Republic, Austria, Denmark, Armenia, Latvia, San Marino, Georgia, Belgium, Estonia, Israel, Norway, and the Netherlands.
Out of the 16 participants, 10 qualified for the final, including Dons and his captivating performance of "Hollow". The grand finale of the Eurovision Song Contest will take place on Saturday, May 11, where Dons will once again take the stage.
It's worth noting that Latvia has had an unlucky streak in the contest since 2016, finishing last in both 2017 and 2021. However, this year, there is a sense of optimism among fans, as Latvia's entry in 2016, "Heartbeat", performed by Justs, managed to qualify for the final.
With Dons' compelling performance and the catchy tune of "Hollow", there's a real possibility that Latvia might break its streak and make a strong impact in the Eurovision Song Contest 2023. Stay tuned for more updates on this exciting journey!
