The 16th Schneidwaren-Samstag, Solingen's annual celebration of craftsmanship and tradition, took place on September 7th, attracting a crowd of around 700 visitors.
This year, the event saw the participation of several renowned companies, including Becker, Kretzer Scissors, Güde Knives, Herder, and drop forge Hendrichs, all part of the LVR-Industriemuseum. For the first time, Becker Solingen joined the festivities, with Managing Director Michael Becker expressing satisfaction with the event and announcing that their leather goods manufactory would move onto the company grounds for the next event.
The LVR-Industriemuseum opened its doors for the occasion, offering an exclusive factory sale. Visitors had the opportunity to purchase high-quality cutting tools directly from the factory, as well as products at particularly attractive prices during the sale. Guided tours through the production facilities were offered every half hour, providing deep insights into the centuries-old craftsmanship of Solingen.
The event's diverse programme catered to the whole family. The traditional Liewerfrau (Delivery Woman) and the Schlieper (Grinder) made a costumed appearance, offering fascinating insights into Solingen's cultural heritage and memorable photo moments. The "Hau den Lukas" from Xtreme-Events brought joy to both big and small visitors, while the successful handball women of HSV Solingen Gräfrath 76' attracted many enthusiastic fans.
Musical entertainment was provided by Mike & the Waiters, creating a lively atmosphere. Refreshing drinks were offered by APE.ritif.bar, and La Jolie Crêperie provided vegan crêpes for sustenance.
The 16th Schneidwaren-Samstag once again highlighted Solingen's rich heritage of craftsmanship. Many visitors took the opportunity to experience production processes up close and learn about the history and technology behind the high-quality products. With the announcement of Becker Solingen's continued participation and the relocation of Hermès' leather goods manufacturing to its company premises in the future, anticipation for the event to be repeated next year is already building.
The Schneidwaren-Samstag in Solingen continues to be a must-visit event for all those interested in the city's rich history and tradition of craftsmanship.
