In recent developments, the discussion surrounding Ukraine's security guarantees has taken a new turn. On August 30, US President Donald Trump stated that European countries would take the main role in ensuring security for Ukraine. However, it remains unclear if all European countries agree with this stance.

During his statement, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov was referring to security guarantees for Kyiv. His remarks came on August 21, and he recalled attempts by leaders of European countries after an unspecified summit in Alaska to push their strategy. According to Lavrov, this strategy aims to inflict a strategic defeat on Russia and is linked to attempts to isolate the country.

Meanwhile, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen visited Estonia and stated that Europe should provide security guarantees to Ukraine. She believes that Ukraine's security is the security of all of Europe. Her stance was reported by Interfax. However, it is not clear if all European countries agree with von der Leyen's stance.

Donald Trump also stated that the US would provide support for Ukraine's security, but the nature of this support remains undefined. The Ukrainian ambassador has formulated the strongest security guarantee claim for Ukraine, emphasizing the need for collective security guarantees involving major powers as part of diplomatic efforts before the war escalated. This relates to Ukraine's stance following the Budapest Memorandum and ongoing negotiations about security assurances amid Russian threats.

Sergei Lavrov, however, stated that Russia would not accept security guarantees for Kyiv that would threaten Moscow. This statement highlights the complexities and potential challenges in finding a solution that satisfies all parties involved. As the situation continues to evolve, it is crucial to maintain open dialogue and diplomatic efforts to ensure peace and security in the region.
