The municipality of Philippsthal is hosting a series of communal lunches, an initiative that has been well-received by the community. These events, organised in collaboration with the "Ortskernmobil" project, take place on the last Tuesday of each month in the Orangerie.
Dirk Noll, the First Deputy District Administrator and Social Affairs Director, appreciates the communal lunch as a valuable offer that promotes cohesion in the community. Timo Heusner, the mayor of the municipality, shares this sentiment, valuing the communal lunch as a place for community, making new contacts, and exchanging ideas.
The motto of the communal lunch is simple yet profound: "It's better to eat together than alone." So far, eight communal lunches have been held, with an average of 60 to 70 guests attending each event.
To participate, citizens are required to register by specific dates. Registration for the communal lunches on September 30th, October 28th, November 25th, and December 16th, respectively, must be done by Monday, 22nd September, 20th October, 17th November, and 8th December, 2025.
The cost for each communal lunch, including dessert, is 7 euros. For those who are no longer mobile, the municipality's citizen bus can be used as a transport service for the communal lunches. Citizens themselves need to register in advance at the Bürgerservicebüro of the municipality Philippsthal by phone and can request the bus reservation when signing up for the meal.
The meals will be served around 11:30 am for all communal lunches. The communal lunch is made possible by the commitment of volunteers, and the cooperation with all those involved runs smoothly.
In addition, the Ecumenical Craft Circle meets every Wednesday at 6 pm in the community house. The Ecumenical Craft Circle of the Evangelical Church provides beautiful and sustainable table decoration for the communal lunch, creating a pleasant atmosphere in the room.
The communal lunches in Philippsthal offer a unique opportunity for community members to come together, share a meal, and foster a sense of belonging. The social workers of the DRK local association Philippsthal support this initiative, and their involvement ensures that these events continue to thrive.
