European railway sector significantly influences the broader European railway sector.
The Mittelsachsen transport association is set to host a rail festival from September 20th to 21st, marking the 200th anniversary of the railway in Europe. The event, which is not just for rail enthusiasts but also welcomes families, is a cooperative effort between the Mittelsachsen transport association and various partners and clubs.
The rail festival, which is celebrating the historic milestone, will take place across 16 municipalities in Mittelsachsen, with 22 event locations spread throughout the region. Some of these locations, such as the exhibitions, music performances, and workshop tours, are free for visitors, while others require a ticket.
The festival is a journey through history, allowing visitors to explore the evolution of the railway. The first train in Europe ran between Stockton and Darlington in September 1825, and the festival will feature steam, diesel, and electric locomotives, showcasing the advancements made over the past two centuries.
One of the event partners involved in the rail festival is EVN. The festival will also feature the Regioshuttle RS Zero, an innovative drive, on display.
The 16 cities in Mittelsachsen where celebrations for the 200th anniversary of the railway will take place are: Chemnitz, Freiberg, Döbeln, Mittweida, Hainichen, Lunzenau, Rochlitz, Penig, Frankenberg, Burgstädt, Lunzenau, Geringswalde, Claußnitz, Brand-Erbisdorf, Nossen, and Leisnig.
The festival will offer a variety of activities, including special services, station festivals, and various workshops. Mathias Korda, VMS Managing Director, considers the 200-year anniversary of the railway a worthy celebration.
The rail festival is taking place during the European Capital of Culture year, making it an even more significant event for Europe. So, mark your calendars and join the celebrations as we commemorate two centuries of European railways!
