In a significant move for the European tech industry, QDI Systems, a deep technology company based in Groningen, has received a 2.5 million Euro grant from the European Innovation Council (EIC). This funding, along with accompanying equity financing, brings the total investment available for QDI Systems to 7.5 million Euros.

Founded in 2019 as a spin-off of the Zernike Institute for Advanced Materials at the University of Groningen by physicist, PhD Artem Shulga, QDI Systems has been making waves in the imaging technology sector. The company develops imaging devices using quantum dots (QDs) for medical and non-medical applications.

QDI Systems' technology addresses challenges in X-ray and Short-Wave Infrared (SWIR) detection technologies, particularly inadequate image quality and insufficient sensitivity. The company is the first in the world to utilize quantum dots for medical X-ray imaging, a breakthrough that is set to revolutionize the industry.

With the new funding, QDI Systems will scale its quantum dots technology for X-ray and SWIR applications. This move is part of the company's ambitious plan to establish European leadership in imaging hardware and transform multibillion-euro global markets.

Prior to this, QDI Systems had already raised a total funding of 6.6 million Euros from notable investors including NOM, the Investment and Development Agency for the Northern Netherlands, Carduso Capital, RuG Ventures, and Maki.vc. The specific institutions that invested the 6.6 million Euros are not currently disclosed.

Last year, QDI Systems secured 5 million Euro Series A funding. Since then, the company has seen its customer base increase ten-fold. This growth is a testament to the demand for QDI Systems' innovative technology and its potential to transform the imaging industry.

QDI Systems' development and manufacturing of its breakthrough technology within Europe strengthens the European semiconductor ecosystem. The company's activities ensure Europe remains at the forefront of imaging technology advancement.

As QDI Systems continues to scale, it is poised to make a significant impact on the global imaging market. The company's commitment to innovation and its focus on solving real-world problems make it a company to watch in the coming years.
