Europe festivities sweep through Detmold

Get ready for an exciting week in Detmold, Germany, as the city gears up for the European Days 2025! From May 3rd to 11th, the city will be buzzing with events under the motto "UN-Ltd. - for a democratic, borderless Europe."

The traditional Europe concert, scheduled for May 7th at 7:30 PM, will take place at the Martin-Luther-Kirche. The Belgian Vlaamo Orchestra is set to perform, but the musical accompaniment remains a mystery. Stay tuned for more details!

On May 8th, Prof. Dr. Arnd Bauerkaemper will deliver a lecture titled "May 8th, 1945 - Consequences and Interpretations in the Two German States" in the small festival hall of the city hall.

The popular European market will be held on May 10th, from 10 AM to 1 PM, at the Rosental-Galerie. The market will be enlivened by the Vlaamo Orchestra's performance.

Detmold will celebrate its 35th anniversary of twinning with Zeitz on May 9th. The occasion will be marked by a discussion evening moderated by journalist Ralph Sina. The town hall will also host the opening of the exhibition "Women in Divided Germany," which will run until May 26th.

Meanwhile, Dr. Alessandro Bellardita will give a lecture titled "True Crime Democracy - How our constitution came about" on May 7th, at 7 PM, in the cafeteria of the Dietrich-Bonhoeffer-Berufskolleg.

The youth theater Karambolage from Zeitz will perform "Emil and the Detectives" by Erich KΓ€stner on May 3rd, at 5 PM, in the Leopoldinum.

Throughout the European Days, Detmold aims to promote democracy, openness, diversity, and unity across borders. The events offer opportunities for joint projects, knowledge exchange, and strengthening city networks.
