Europe celebration takes place in Detmold

Detmold, Germany, is set to host a series of events from May 3rd to 11th, 2025, as part of the European Days 2025. This event series aims to promote democracy, openness, diversity, and unity across borders, encouraging active participation from the city's citizens.

The European Days 2025 will not be associated with the event series "UN-Ltd. - for a democratic, borderless Europe," as previously mentioned. However, the European Days will offer opportunities to enrich communities through cooperation with European partner cities.

Mayor Frank Hilker encourages citizens to take part in shaping Europe in Detmold, with the European Days 2025 intended to foster friendships, experience cultural diversity, and learn from European partner cities.

One such event is the opening of the exhibition "Women in Divided Germany," which will be held in the town hall from May 9th to May 26th, 2025. The exhibition promises to offer insights into the lives of women during the divided era in Germany.

On May 10th, 2025, from 10 AM to 1 PM, the popular European market will take place at the Rosental-Galerie. The Belgian Vlamo orchestra is scheduled to perform during this market.

For more information and the full program of the European Days 2025, citizens are advised to visit the "European Days 2025" subpage on the city portal.

Other notable events include a traditional European concert of the Detmold city gymnasium in Martin-Luther-Kirche on May 7th, 2025, at 7:30 PM. Dr. Alessandro Bellardita will give a lecture titled "True Crime Democracy - How our constitution came about" in the cafeteria of the Dietrich-Bonhoeffer-Berufskolleg on May 7th, 2025, at 7 PM.

Detmold will also celebrate the 35th anniversary of its twinning with Zeitz on May 9th, 2025, with a discussion moderated by journalist Ralph Sina. The youth theater Karambolage from Zeitz will perform "Emil and the Detectives" in Leopoldinum on May 3rd, 2025, at 5 PM.

Prof. Dr. Arnd Bauerkaemper will give a lecture "May 8th, 1945 - Consequences and Interpretations in the Two German States" in the small festival hall of the city hall on May 8th, 2025. The official European celebration of the city portal will take place within the district festival in Heiligenkirchen on May 10th, 2025, at 5:45 PM.
