EU Council Endorses Plan for a European Suicide Prevention Hub
In the heart of Germany, the state capital of Wiesbaden is taking a significant step towards addressing a pressing issue – suicide prevention. On September 10th, Wiesbaden will participate in the nationwide action day for World Suicide Prevention Day.
The World Health Organization (WHO) emphasizes that suicide prevention must be viewed as a societal task, and Wiesbaden is heeding this call.
The Vitos Clinic Eichberg, Clinic for Psychiatry and Psychotherapy, located at Kloster-Eberbach-Straße 4, 65346 Eltville, is one of the key players in this endeavour. Those in need can reach out to them at (06123) 6020.
Wiesbaden is not alone in its efforts. The Clinic for Psychiatry and Psychotherapy of the HELIOS Dr. Horst Schmidt Clinics, situated at Ludwig-Erhard-Straße 100, 65199 Wiesbaden, is another vital resource that can be contacted at (0611) 430.
For those facing difficult life situations, mental illnesses, or addiction problems, several organizations in Wiesbaden offer additional support. These include the Psychiatric Center Nordbaden (PZN) with outpatient and inpatient psychiatric, psychotherapeutic, and psychosomatic care, Wiesbaden lernt Erste Hilfe e.V., which works on mental health emergency aid in cooperation with partners like Vitos Rheingau, the Landeswohlfahrtsverband Hessen providing support and social services, and EVIM (Evangelischer Verein für Innere Mission in Nassau), which focuses on individualized help for people in difficult life circumstances.
People with invisible disabilities, such as autism, ADHD, depression, FASD, or chronic neurological disorders, are often at particular risk. Low-threshold support, such as retreat spaces, psychosocial services, understandable information, or inclusion in daily life, can provide relief.
The Social Psychiatry Service (SpDi) and the Coordination of Community Psychiatry at the Health Department of Wiesbaden offer further services for people aged 18 and above. The Psychosocial Center Ost, located at Kaiser-Friedrich-Ring 88, 65185 Wiesbaden, and the Psychosocial Center Mitte, situated at Scharnhorststraße 24, 56195 Wiesbaden, are two such centres. The Psychosocial Center Süd, found at Stettiner Straße 2a, 65203 Wiesbaden, is another valuable resource.
Awareness saves lives, and talking about suicide lowers the barrier to seeking help. In this vein, the telephone counseling service 0800 1110111 or 0800 1110222 is available for those in a mental crisis or concerned about someone.
Numerous self-help groups offer specific services for those affected and their relatives facing psychological challenges. Interested individuals can contact the self-help contact point of the Wiesbaden Health Department at Phone (0611) 313777 or email.
In 2023, the number of suicides in Germany reached over 10,000, underscoring the urgency of these efforts. The Press Office of the State Capital Wiesbaden, located at Schlossplatz 6, 65183 Wiesbaden, is the publisher of this press release. Citizens can contact the responsible department or office with any questions.
Together, we can make a difference in the fight against suicide. Let's continue to talk, to support, and to strive for a mentally healthier society.
