Etihad Airlines Announces Record Half-Year Earnings and Passenger Volume
In a remarkable display of growth and success, Etihad Airways, the national airline of the United Arab Emirates based in Abu Dhabi, has achieved impressive milestones in the first half of 2025. The airline has expanded sustainably, investing in premium experiences, and brought record numbers of visitors to Abu Dhabi through its growing network.
The airline's financial performance has been equally impressive. Etihad Airways reported a record profit after tax of AED 1.1 billion (US$ 306 million) in the first half of the year, marking a significant 32% increase compared to the same period last year. This growth was driven by increased customer demand, productivity and efficiency gains, and improved yields across both passenger and cargo segments.
Antonoaldo Neves, Chief Executive Officer of Etihad Airways, commented on the airline's success, stating, "Our strategy and the dedication of our people have been key to this achievement. We are committed to providing exceptional experiences for our customers while maintaining our focus on sustainable growth."
The growth in profit was accompanied by an increase in passenger numbers. Etihad Airways carried 10.2 million passengers in the first half of 2025, a 17% year-on-year increase. This milestone is double the 10 million recorded in 2022, cementing Etihad Airways' position as the fastest-growing carrier in the region.
The increase in passengers was supported by a 14% rise in available seat kilometres (ASK) and an improved load factor of 87%, up two percentage points on last year. In July 2025, Etihad Airways added five more aircraft to its fleet, taking its operating fleet count to over 100 aircraft.
The expansion of Etihad Airways' fleet has been marked by several significant additions. In April, the airline received its sixth Airbus A350, and in July, it added five new aircraft, including its first Airbus A321LR. In May, Etihad Airways confirmed an agreement with Boeing for an order of 28 wide-body aircraft, further underscoring its long-term growth and connectivity ambitions.
In early July, Etihad Airways surpassed the milestone of 20 million passengers carried over the preceding 12 months, a testament to its growing network and commitment to providing premium experiences for its customers. The airline's growth has not only benefited Abu Dhabi but also the wider region, bringing record numbers of visitors and boosting tourism.
The return of a seventh A380 to service in May was another significant milestone for Etihad Airways. The A380, known for its spacious and luxurious cabins, is a symbol of the airline's dedication to premium experiences.
In conclusion, Etihad Airways' success in the first half of 2025 is a testament to its strategic approach, the dedication of its people, and its commitment to sustainable growth and premium experiences. With its expanding network and growing fleet, Etihad Airways is set to continue bringing record numbers of visitors to Abu Dhabi and boosting tourism in the region.
