"Eternal Existence"
The Lebensader Lux project, a significant urban development initiative aimed at making Luxembourg Street more attractive and livable, is currently underway in Hermülheim. This project, which is part of a larger urban development megaproject, has received funding from both the Federal Ministry for Housing, Urban Development and Building, as well as the NRW Ministry for Home Affairs, Local Government, Building and Digitalization, totalling 7,971,413 euros.
Construction works for the project began in the fall of 2024 and are scheduled to continue until the fall of 2029. Notable changes include the removal of temporary parking spaces in the area between Bonn Street and AOK Street due to both construction works and the subsequent canal construction.
The canal construction will take place between AOK Street and Severinus Street. In addition, two roundabouts will replace the intersections on the project, with a dedicated section in between the roundabouts designated as a cycle street with a maximum speed limit of 30 km/h.
To accommodate the construction works, access regulation in the Horbeller Street to AOK Street area remains in effect between 18:00 and 9:00. This regulation also applies to the Horbeller Street to AOK Street area.
The goal of the project is to create a traffic-calmed zone with plenty of greenery and high dwell-time quality between Bonn Street in the south and Horbeller Street in the north. Furthermore, a 171,600 euro grant has been secured for the planned cycle street from the Federal Ministry for Digital and Transport and the Federal Agency for Logistics and Mobility (BALM).
The Ministry for Environment, Nature Conservation and Transport of the state of NRW is also a contributor to the project's funding. A dedicated website has been established to transparently accompany this megaproject, providing updates on its progress.
However, the responsible client for the subsidy of the project "Lebensader Lux" under the federal program "Stadt und Land" could not be found in the available search results. Despite this, the construction works are progressing faster than expected, indicating a promising future for the revitalization of Luxembourg Street in Hermülheim.
