Eternal C vessel meets its watery demise in the sprawling expanse of the Red Sea
The Red Sea witnessed another tragic incident on Tuesday, as the Yemeni-based Houthi militia attacked the Liberia-flagged bulk carrier, the Eternity C, operated by a Greek company. The attack resulted in heavy damage, causing the ship to sink, leaving four seafarers dead and two injured.
According to reports by Al Bawaba, the Eternity C was carrying 22 crew members, all but one of whom were Filipinos. The Houthi militia used drones and anti-tank weapons in the attack.
This incident follows a similar attack on another Liberia-flagged, Greek-operated bulk carrier, the MV Magic Seas, off southwest Yemen on Sunday. Both ships were operated by the same Greek company. The MV Magic Seas also sank following the attack.
The Houthis group has taken responsibility for both attacks. The US Embassy in Yemen has strongly condemned these actions, stating that the intentional murder of innocent mariners shows the Houthis' true colors and will only further the Houthis' isolation. The Embassy also expressed concern over the Houthis' undermining of freedom of navigation in the Red Sea.
However, the Yemenis, either as individuals or a group, have not yet issued a statement regarding these attacks.
Our thoughts go out to the families and friends of the victims of these attacks. The international community must come together to ensure the safety and security of all seafarers and the freedom of navigation in vital waterways like the Red Sea.
