Essen’s Mayor Kufen Kicks Off a Week of Innovation and Cultural Exchange

Essen’s Lord Mayor Thomas Kufen will take part in a busy schedule of events next week. The city, known as Europe’s Energy Capital, continues to focus on innovation, youth support, and cultural exchange. Among the highlights is the official opening of the new TUMO Center for Creative Technologies on Monday, November 10.

The week begins with two key events on Monday, November 10. Kufen will first open the TUMO Center, Essen’s first digital education hub for young people aged 12 to 18. Later that day, he will attend the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award ceremony and a public information session.

On Tuesday, November 11, the mayor’s agenda includes a meeting of the Public Art Commission and the Hydrogen and Energy Advisory Council. These discussions align with Essen’s role as a leader in hydrogen and sustainable energy. That same afternoon, he will chair the administrative board of the city portal and celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Youth Employment Agency, which helps young people transition from school to work.

Wednesday, November 12, sees Kufen at the regional gathering of School Without Racism – School With Courage. The initiative promotes inclusivity in local schools.

The following day, Thursday, November 13, he will attend the retirement farewell for Dieter Hildebrand and open the German-Tunisian Culture Week. This event strengthens Essen’s international cultural ties.

The week concludes on Friday, November 14, with the official opening of Essen’s Christmas Market on Kennedy Square. Before that, Kufen will chair the supervisory board meeting of Stadtwerke Essen AG and speak at the conference 40 Years of the Center for Turkey Studies.

Essen’s business landscape includes major firms like RWE, E.ON, and Arvato Systems. These companies are adapting to the green transition through digitalisation, AI, and sustainable energy solutions. The city’s focus on hydrogen and innovation supports this shift.

The week’s events highlight Essen’s commitment to education, energy, and cultural exchange. From youth programmes to energy advancements, the city remains active in shaping its future. Kufen’s schedule reflects the diverse priorities driving Essen forward.
