Escapees from SIZO-1 in Ekaterinburg possessed the key to their own cell.

In the early hours of September 1, 2023, a shocking incident unfolded in Yekaterinburg, Russia. Two inmates, Ivan Korukov and Alexander Cherepanov, managed to escape from Investigation Isolation Ward No. 1.

The inmates, who were previously convicted of a terrorist act and are currently on the nationwide wanted list, were sentenced in October 2024 by the Central Military Court. Korukov received a 9.5-year sentence, while Cherepanov was given a 7-year term in a strict-regime colony.

The escape occurred at 02:40, but it wasn't until 10:40 that the guards noticed their absence. The inmates were last seen near the Volchikhinsky Reservoir.

The Federal Penitentiary Service of the Sverdlovsk Region has offered a reward for information on their whereabouts and urged residents of the region to be cautious, reporting any suspicious activities to law enforcement agencies. The investigation claims that in the spring of 2023, Korukov and Cherepanov planned to set fire to a military enlistment office on the orders of a Ukrainian Armed Forces coordinator.

The search for the inmates continues, with their personal belongings found in the "Crystal" SNT and the Palkinsky Bog. Owners of garden plots have also been warned about the possible presence of the criminals on their territory.

New criminal cases have been opened against Korukov and Cherepanov for negligence and escape from a penal institution. The two have also been included in the list of terrorists and extremists of Rosfinmonitoring.

The two escapees, Muslim Nuraliyev and Dmitry Fedotov, were the ones who broke free. Nuraliyev and Fedotov were convicted for plotting a terrorist act in October 2024.

On September 2nd, Korukov and Cherepanov were put on the federal wanted list. Reports suggest that they may be hiding on private plots in the Sverdlovsk Region.

This incident serves as a reminder for the residents of Yekaterinburg to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the authorities. The source of this information is "KP-Ekaterinburg".
