Escaped a cruise ship casino with a significant financial loss of $16,000, seeking refuge to elude mounting debts.

In an unprecedented event, a fugitive named Gonzalez-Diaz managed to escape from the Royal Caribbean's Rhapsody of the Seas while the ship was returning to San Juan, Puerto Rico on September 7.

The drama unfolded during a week-long sea voyage that began on August 31, with the ship setting sail from San Juan, Puerto Rico. The ship, which boasts 12 decks, was bound for various Caribbean destinations, including Barbados.

Surveillance cameras on board the Rhapsody of the Seas captured a shocking moment: Gonzalez-Diaz jumping overboard. A passing jet ski, suspiciously waiting nearby, picked up the fugitive shortly after.

Upon reaching Puerto Rico's shores, customs officials found Gonzalez-Diaz in the vicinity of the Capitol. At the time of his arrest, it was revealed that he had accumulated over $16,000 in debt at the Royal Caribbean cruise ship casino.

The lawyer representing Gonzalez-Diaz in this case has not been publicly specified. Some speculate that the escape was premeditated, given the presence of the jet ski nearby.

This incident has raised concerns about security measures on Royal Caribbean cruises, with many questioning whether enough is being done to prevent such incidents. The cruise industry, however, has yet to release a statement regarding this matter.

The Rhapsody of the Seas, owned by Royal Caribbean International, has suspended its operations for the time being, while authorities continue their investigation into the escape of Gonzalez-Diaz.
