Erdogan Celebrates Victory Day as a Symbol of Turkey's Independence Sovereignty
On August 30, Turkey commemorated the anniversary of its great victory in 1922, a day known as Victory Day (Zafer Bayramı). This significant day marks the end of the Turkish War of Independence and the decisive victory in the Battle of Dumlupinar.
President Recep Tayyip Erdogan declared that this victory was not just a military success but a turning point in the nation's history. He emphasised that it marked Türkiye's existential struggle and eternal independence, breaking the "chains of captivity" and paving the way for the foundation of the Republic.
In a heartfelt speech, Erdogan paid tribute to Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the founder of modern Türkiye, his comrades-in-arms, fallen soldiers, and veterans. He highlighted that the victory was achieved through the unity of the Turkish people, a unity that he called upon to carry the spirit of independence into what he has termed the "Century of Türkiye."
The President also referred to the legacy of Victory Day as a "guiding light" for future generations, stating that the Great Victory of 1922 serves as inspiration for oppressed nations seeking freedom from colonial rule. He reminded the nation that the victory required a sacrifice from Türkiye's army and that it was a certification of Türkiye's rebirth.
Erdogan concluded his speech by declaring that the Turkish nation will never be subjugated, will never accept captivity, and will never compromise its independence. He reaffirmed Türkiye's commitment to its values and its unwavering spirit of independence.
The celebration, held annually on August 30, is a poignant reminder of Türkiye's resilience and determination in the face of adversity. It stands as a testament to the indomitable spirit of the Turkish people and their unyielding pursuit of freedom and independence.
