Epidemic of Ebola in the Congo
The Ministry of Public Health, Hygiene, and Social Security in the Republic of Congo, led by Dr. Roger Kamba, announced on September 4, 2025, the latest Ebola outbreak in the country. This marks the sixteenth time Ebola has reemerged in Congo since the 1970s.
The latest confirmed infection case is a 34-year-old pregnant woman who was admitted to a hospital in July with symptoms including high fever, repeated vomiting, and other common symptoms of Ebola such as weakness, muscle pain, headache, sore throat, vomiting, and diarrhea.
The Ebola virus spreads through contact with the bodily fluids of an infected person. As of the announcement on Thursday, there had been 15 deaths and 28 suspected cases before this new case. The latest confirmed infection was in the southern Kasai province.
Ebola outbreaks have occurred repeatedly in Congo over the years, with the first outbreak reported in 1976. The virus is highly contagious and can cause severe illness and death in humans.
Dr. Kamba and his team are working tirelessly to contain the spread of the virus and provide care to those affected. The World Health Organization (WHO) and other international organizations are also providing support to the Congolese government in managing the outbreak.
The public is urged to take precautions to protect themselves from the virus, including avoiding contact with the bodily fluids of infected individuals, practicing good hygiene, and seeking medical attention if experiencing any symptoms of Ebola.
As the situation continues to develop, the Ministry of Public Health, Hygiene, and Social Security will provide updates on the outbreak and efforts to contain it. It is important for the public to stay informed and follow the guidance of health officials to help prevent the spread of the virus.
