Hazardous Waste Disposal Service Comes to Giessen
Residents and business owners in the Giessen district can now dispose of their hazardous waste more easily, thanks to a mobile unit that will be making regular visits to the area. Here's what you need to know about the service.
Firstly, it's important to note that business owners must have a pick-up receipt to use the free hazardous waste disposal service. Private individuals, on the other hand, can dispose of up to 100 kilograms of hazardous waste for free.
The mobile unit accepts a wide range of items, including paints, wood preservatives, batteries, adhesives, energy-saving lamps, fluorescent tubes, filled spray cans, plant protection products, expired medications, e-cigarettes, and their packaging. However, wall paint (dispersion paint) is not considered hazardous and will not be accepted.
The mobile unit will be available on the first Friday of the month from 3 to 5 pm on the festival grounds "Zur Helle" in Lauchert. On Saturdays from 9 to 12 noon, it can be found at the entrance of the waste management center (AWZ) in Lahnstraße 220 in Giessen.
Fire extinguishers will be accepted for free at the hazardous waste mobile unit this year. Small electronic devices up to the size of a toaster can also be dropped off.
Punctuality is required at the hazardous waste mobile unit locations due to a tight schedule and setup/teardown times. Appointments for the mobile unit can be made online or through the Giessen District Waste App.
The tour will include stops at larger villages and cities in the district. The tour dates can be found on the Giessen District website or in the Giessen District Waste App. The hazardous waste mobile unit will return to the Giessen district in August.
For further information on hazardous waste disposal, visit the Giessen County website or contact the Waste Management Department of the Giessen County Waste Management Authority at 0641 9390 -1995 or [email protected].
With the hazardous waste mobile unit, disposing of hazardous waste has become more convenient for residents and business owners in the Giessen district. So, don't hesitate to take advantage of this service. For more information, visit the Giessen District website or contact the Waste Management Department.
