The German educational office of the European Space Agency (ESA), ESERO Germany, has announced an exciting competition - the CanSat competition. This event is coordinated with national and local partners such as the German Aerospace Center (DLR), the Institute for Aerospace Technology (IAT) at Bremen University of Applied Sciences, Space Rocket Technology, the Center for Applied Space Technology and Microgravity (ZARM) at the University of Bremen, and the Geographical Institute of Ruhr University Bochum.
This competition is open to United Kingdom and Republic of Ireland residents aged 18 or over. Entry is free, but entrants may be subject to data charges depending on their individual arrangements for Internet access if entry is online or by email.
To enter, click the 'click to enter' link on the This Wasn't Meant To Happen page before the Closing Date, which is 11.59pm on September 27, 2025. An eligible entrant must submit an entry in the form requested by the Promoter, including their name, address, and email address.
By entering, all eligible entrants agree to abide by each and all these terms and conditions. Entrants will retain copyright in their submitted entries, however, by entering, all entrants license the Promoter a worldwide royalty-free perpetual license to edit, publish, and use each entry in any and all media for publicity and news purposes.
The prize is a copy of "This Wasn't Meant to Happen" by Ali Harris in either hardcover, paperback, or e-book format. Winners will be notified by email, phone, or other contact details provided within fourteen days after the Closing Date. Winners' names may be published on the Promoter's website.
The Promoter reserves the right at any time to cancel, modify, or supersede the competition (including altering prizes) if, in the Promoter's sole discretion, the competition is not capable of being conducted as specified. The Promoter also reserves the right to substitute a prize of equal value in the event that circumstances beyond their control make this unavoidable.
Other than death or personal injury arising from the acts or omissions of the Promoter or its employees, the Promoter will not be liable for any loss or damage arising out of the winner's (or their guest's) enjoyment of the prize. The Promoter will not be liable for technical, hardware, or software failures of any kind or lost or unavailable network connections that may limit or prohibit an eligible entrant's ability to participate in the competition.
By entering, any subsequent prize winners agree to allow the free use of their names, photographs, and general locations for publicity and news purposes during this and future promotions by the Promoter or any associated or subsidiary company of News Corp UK & Ireland Limited. Entrants' personal data will be used in accordance with the Promoter's privacy policy, which can be found on the Promoter's website.
Please note that employees of News Corp UK & Ireland Limited, their associated, affiliated or subsidiary companies, their families, agents, and promotional partners are not eligible to enter. Only one entry per person is allowed. Bulk, automatically generated, or third-party entries are void.
For a list of winners, send a stamped envelope to News UK, Competitions Department, our editorial address stating for which competition you would like winners' details. The Promoter's decision is final and binding on the entrants. No correspondence will be entered into.
Uses of personal data received by the Promoter in the course of the promotion are subject to the Promoter's privacy policy found on the Promoter's website. The Promoter reserves the right to publish entries (including parts of entries) other than the winning entry and publication does not necessarily mean the entrant has won a prize.
