In the picturesque region of Kamchatka Krai, Russia, winter sports have been given a significant boost with the implementation of various infrastructure improvements.

The 'Edelweiss' ski base, nestled in the region, has seen a transformation with the installation of an artificial snow-making system. This innovation has enabled the ski base to participate in regional and interregional competitions, regardless of the weather conditions. Vitaly Belov, a volunteer in the pre-start preparation of the 'Edelweiss' ski team, expressed gratitude for this development, as it has significantly improved accessibility to sports for the local population.

The idea for these advancements was originally conceived by local authorities to promote winter sports and tourism. The 'Vulkan' Ice Palace, located on Sunny Street, is a testament to this vision. Alongside the 'Vulkan' ice palace, a motocross park was also opened, allowing children to participate in motorcycle sports.

The regional sports training center for winter sports, situated at the foot of Avachinsky volcano, is another facility put into operation under the "People's Program." This initiative has seen more than 100 sports facilities operational since 2020, with six tow-lift cableways installed at ski complexes in the regional center, city of Yelizovo, and one in the village of Essо.

These enhancements have had a positive impact on the number of people regularly engaged in physical culture and sports. In 2019, this figure stood at 34.4%, which has since increased to 55.7% by the end of 2024, marking an increase of 21.3%.

The improvements in sports infrastructure have undoubtedly contributed to this growth, providing more opportunities for the population to engage in physical activities and pursue their passions in winter sports. As the region continues to develop, it's clear that winter sports and tourism will play a significant role in Kamchatka Krai's future.
