Enhancing open child and youth services will continue for the subsequent five years in the city

Dormagen, Germany - New contracts signed by Mayor Erik Lierenfeld on August 26, 2020, will secure the financial stability of open youth work facilities in Dormagen for the next five years. The contracts, effective from January 1, 2026, until the end of 2030, aim to provide new content impulses for the youth facilities and create more space for young people.

The organisations affected by these contracts include the youth facility operators who signed the agreements. These organisations will benefit from the employment of additional specialized staff, allowing them to offer a wider range of services. The focus of the new contracts will be on young people aged 14 and over.

The new contracts are designed to set new priorities, provide operators with planning security, and offer reliable points of contact for young people in Dormagen with relevant offers. The city will provide an annual "action pot" of 12,000 euros for operators to organise larger, cross-institutional events with an event character.

Initially, four events per year - one per quarter - are planned to provide additional leisure activities for young people. Encounters and participation are to be promoted through these events.

The new contracts also support the deployment of voluntary service performers, benefiting smaller facilities and young people seeking social engagement. New programs in the areas of culture, democracy promotion, and mental health will be introduced, specifically addressing current social challenges.

A review is planned after three years to make any necessary adjustments. Mike Wetzel, head of the department for children, youth, families, and school, stated that the new contracts create more quality in Open Youth Work and flexible structures that cater to the needs of young people.

Mayor Lierenfeld emphasized the importance of these new contracts for modern and future-oriented youth work in all districts of the city. The "Micado" in Dormagen-Mitte and the "RΓΌbe" in Horrem are among the facilities that will benefit from the new contracts. The signing of these contracts lays the foundation for a promising future for open youth work in Dormagen.
