City Youth Office Hosts Carrier Day to Deepen Cooperation

In an effort to address the growing challenges in youth welfare, the City Youth Office recently hosted a Carrier Day for its partners in the city area. The event, attended by 35 experts, aimed to deepen cooperation and foster a common understanding of social work for children, young people, families, and young adults.

Corinna Müller, the new head of the City Youth Office, welcomed the participants at the beginning of the expert day. She emphasized the great importance of partnership cooperation for successful work in youth welfare.

The task spectrum of the City Youth Office includes promoting young people, supporting parents, and protecting children and young people from dangers. The challenges for youth welfare are increasing due to the shortage of skilled workers, constant changes in work through reforms and changes in the law, and the new tasks these bring.

The Corona pandemic, weakening social cohesion, feelings of "being left behind", and concrete problems such as financial hardship are among the challenges faced by families and young people. The inclusive orientation of youth welfare has been given more focus in social and political debates as a result of the Children and Youth Strengthening Act (KJSG) passed in 2021.

During the Carrier Day, experts exchanged views on pressing professional issues among themselves. In small workshops, participants had the opportunity to inform themselves about individual tasks of the youth office, exchange views with experts, or give feedback on existing cooperations.

The participants agreed that close and trusting cooperation between youth offices and institutions of free youth welfare is crucial for the future success of youth welfare. They also agreed that this one-time meeting should not be the end, but that daily good cooperation should also be further expanded and deepened through such formats.

The institutions of free youth welfare involved in future cooperation with the city youth office in the urban region include inter-municipal collaboration partners such as youth welfare offices (Jugendämter) of the cities Speyer, Landau in der Pfalz, Neustadt an der Weinstraße, and the districts Bad Dürkheim and Germersheim. These partners work together through formal agreements and regular coordination meetings to address youth welfare challenges collectively.

Continuous cooperation at eye level will benefit all who need support in youth welfare. The success of the City Youth Office's work depends on experts having a common understanding of social work for children, young people, families, and young adults, and exchanging professional knowledge. The goal of the Carrier Day was to deepen cooperation among the City Youth Office and its partners, and the participants agreed that this was a significant step towards achieving that goal.
