Enhancement of Volkswagen Crafter in New Zealand: focus on digital upgrades for light commercial vehicles takes a significant step forward

The Volkswagen Crafter, a popular commercial vehicle, is set to receive an upgrade, with the Grand California camper version also receiving updates. The new versions are yet to be confirmed for New Zealand, but the revised Crafter was launched in Europe mid-2024.

The Volkswagen Crafter's interior has been revamped, featuring fully digital instrumentation and displays. The vehicle now offers an inductive wireless charging option for smartphones and upgraded connectivity with USB-C ports. Transmission choices include a 6-speed manual and an 8-speed automatic specifically designed for Rear-wheel Drive (RWD) models.

The Crafter's 4-cylinder turbocharged diesel engines deliver 103kW, 120kW, or 130kW of power. The vehicle is available in a wide range of body types, including panel van, drop side, cab chassis, and heavy-duty solutions.

The new Grand California camper boasts a fresh interior design with the "Atami Bamboo" decor. The camper's kitchen unit now includes a mobile dining table that can be locked to the exterior for outdoor dining. New finishes are available for the tabletop and work surfaces, and an optional custom-fit thermal mat and revised blackout windows for the cab are also available.

New luggage nets provide extra storage for both 600 (transverse bed) and 680 (longitudinal bed) models in the Grand California camper. An electronically operated parking brake has been added for added convenience.

The new edition of the Volkswagen Grand California will be showcased at the Caravan Salon in Dusseldorf, August 27-September 7. Pricing for the Volkswagen Crafter begins at $91,000 including GST, plus on-road costs, and includes 3 scheduled services. For automatic models, the gear selector has been moved to the steering column.

The Crafter continues to offer front-wheel, rear-wheel, and 4Motion all-wheel drive options. The upgraded charging system ensures a reliable performance for both the vehicle and the camper.

Stay tuned for more updates on the potential release of these upgraded models in New Zealand.
