Enhanced Security at Frankfurt Main Station: Frankfurt intensifies security to combat crime and disturbances
Frankfurt am Main, Germany - A new cooperation agreement has been signed by the City of Frankfurt, Deutsche Bahn, state and federal governments, Frankfurt city police, federal police, and Verkehrsgesellschaft Frankfurt am Main. The agreement aims to improve safety and the quality of life at Frankfurt Central Station, the station district, and other central stations like Konstablerwache, Hauptwache, and Frankfurt-Höchst.
The agreement, initially valid for three years and automatically renewable unless a party requests changes, focuses on reacting to current developments with reinforced security patrols, closer coordination, and regular evaluations of their deployments. The goal is not only to increase objective safety but also to strengthen the sense of security among travelers and citizens.
Klaus Vornhusen, DB's state manager, believes the new agreement sends a clear signal to jointly develop safety in and around the station. "A future-proof city can only be achieved with an attractive and safe local transport system," adds Wolfgang Siefert, head of the transport department.
Annette Rinn, head of the public order department, emphasizes that safety is a central concern of the population. The federal police sees cooperation as an important basis for increasing presence at critical points and accelerating reactions to disruptions.
Already implemented measures include a weapons ban zone and reinforced video surveillance. The agreement also aims to make the station district less appealing to criminals and reduce its role as a national hotspot for drug crime.
Mayor Mike Josef emphasized that other central locations in the city should also benefit from the agreement. Interior Minister Roman Poseck views the agreement as part of a comprehensive security strategy.
The success of the agreed measures remains to be seen. Close cooperation among all involved actors is necessary to achieve this goal. With the new agreement, the city is taking another step towards more order and quality of stay.
