Enhanced School Admission Screening: Assessment of Dental Health Condition Prior to Admission
Göttingen, a city known for its rich academic heritage, is taking a significant step towards promoting children's health. The Public Health Department of the City and District of Göttingen, in collaboration with the Polyclinic for Preventive Dentistry, Periodontology, and Caries Research at the University Medical Center Göttingen, is conducting a study on possible links between dental health and overall health in school-aged children.
The aim of this study, which will take place during the school entrance examination from December 4, 2024, to June 2025, is to determine connections between dental health and overall health, such as irregularities during pregnancy and birth, chronic illnesses, medication intake, developmental delays, and more.
The dental examination, which is voluntary and free of charge, will be offered at Theaterplatz 4 in Göttingen. The dental status of the children will be collected as part of the examination, and feedback on their oral health will be provided after the examination.
The findings of this study could help identify health risk factors for the occurrence of dental damage and could potentially lead to improved children's oral health through individually tailored preventive measures.
For those interested, detailed information about the study can be found on the website of the City of Göttingen, as well as on the Polyclinic for Preventive Dentistry, Caries Research, and Periodontology at the University Medical Center Göttingen's website.
This study is a significant step towards understanding the intricate relationship between dental health and overall health, and it underscores the city's commitment to the well-being of its youngest residents. By participating in this study, parents can contribute to a better understanding of dental health and help pave the way for future preventive measures.
